Project Overview
Ken Rodney Construction was engaged to carry out essential civil engineering
works on the dam crest at Widdop Reservoir. The project required precise
excavation, temporary works installation and safe access in a challenging
upland environment exposed to year-round weather extremes.
Scope Of Works
Our team delivered a full package of works including:
Installation of Edge Safe systems to provide compliant, engineered edge
protection.
Driving of sheet piles to support the required excavation.
Use of an Excavator Mounted Vibrator (EMV) for efficient and controlled pile
installation.
Management of difficult access routes for plant, materials and personnel.
Safe and continuous operations through variable terrain and seasonal weather
conditions.
Challenges & Solutions
Restricted Access:
The reservoir’s remote location and narrow approach tracks made access
particularly difficult. Working closely with trusted transport partners, we
coordinated careful logistics to ensure safe delivery of plant and
equipment.
Variable Weather:
The team operated through extreme contrasts, from high summer temperatures
to rain, mud and winter snowfall. Adaptable planning and experience ensured
consistent productivity throughout.
Complex Temporary Works:
The combination of excavation support and edge protection required
coordination between piling operations, temporary works systems and safe
working zones. Our crews managed this seamlessly.
